Keith Barefield begins his first season at the helm of the
Northwestern Oklahoma State football team. Barefield is a veteran coach
who has built successful programs at three different levels of
competition.
A native of Eufaula, Ala., Barefield comes to Northwestern
from Victoria Memorial High School in Victoria, Texas, where he served as
an assistant coach in charge of quarterbacks and receivers.
His greatest success came during a 19-year tenure at NAIA
power Evangel University in Springfield, Mo. Barefield served as an
assistant there for nine years before becoming head coach in 1988. The
winningest coach at Evangel with a record of 66-33-2, Barefield recorded
eight consecutive winning seasons and made four trips to the NAIA
playoffs.
Barefield was the winningest coach at any level in the
state of Missouri during the 1990’s. His teams were nationally ranked at
some part of the year during each season he was head coach.
During his tenure as a collegiate coach, Barefield has
coached 15 All-Americans and 10 Academic All-Americans. He served as the
President of the NAIA Football Coaches
Association in 1996 and was named as the 1996 and 1997
Heart of America Coach of the Year.
A 1978 graduate of Evangel, Barefield has the distinction
of starting at fullback on the Crusader’s first football team (1977). He
held the rushing record for most yards per carry in a game (10.8) for 16
years.
After graduating, Barefield worked for two years at
Cincinnati (Ohio) Christian High School as the athletic director and as a
Bible teacher. He returned to Evangel in 1980 as a graduate assistant and
was hired full-time in 1981. From 1980 to 1988 Barefield handled the
offensive coordinator position and was the offensive backfield coach. In
addition, he was the assistant head coach in 1982. Barefield earned his
master’s degree in 1983 from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in
Springfield, Mo.
After his tenure at Evangel, Barefield spent a year and a
half as a financial consultant before heading back into the coaching
ranks.
Barefield was the head football coach and athletic
director at Cornerstone High School in San Antonio, Texas from 2001-2003.
While there, he was crowned the Texas State Champions in 2001 and 2003 and
made the state playoffs all three years. While at Cornerstone, he produced
a 29-7 overall record.
Beginning in 2001, Barefield ventured into professional
football, where he was a regional scout for the Edmonton Eskimos of the
Canadian Football League until 2007.
Barefield was the head coach and director of football
operations for the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings of Arena Football 2
from 2003-2005.
Barefield resides in Alva with his wife Lisa, who is the secretary in
the Northwestern Division of Nursing. They have four children: Billy (20),
who is playing football for Northwestern, Leslie (19), is attending
Northwestern, Keith Jr. (18), who is a senior quarterback at Victoria
Memorial High School in Victoria, Texas, and Bryan (21), who is a junior
at the University of Texas - San Antonio.

Ivy Williams
Assistant Head Coach - Offensive
Line
Ivy Williams enters his first
season on the Ranger coaching staff as the
assistant head coach in charge of the
offensive line. This season will be his 33rd
year in the coaching profession.
Before coming to Alva,
Williams coached tight ends at Savannah State
(Ga.), an NCAA I-AA school. Seven years prior
(1994-00), he was the running backs coach at
the University of Alabama.
Williams began coaching at
Xavier (Ohio) as a graduate assistant where he
played collegiate football from 1968-71. The
three-year letterman, led his team in scoring
and receiving. He was named a member of the
Legion of Honor after serving as team captain
for the Muscateers.
Williams’ first full-time
coaching job was at Middletown (Ohio) High
School. He left Middletown for the collegiate
ranks as the running backs coach at Marshall
University from 1974-75.
Williams has made several
coaching stops, including numerous NCAA
Division I schools and even time in the NFL.
His coaching career includes jobs at Kansas
State University (1975-77), New Mexico State
(1978), University of Kansas (1979-81),
Arizona State University (1982-84), the
Detroit Lions of the NFL (1985-86), University
of Akron (1987-88) and Texas Tech (1989-93).
While at Arizona State, he led
the Sun Devils to the national lead in total
offense and at Texas Tech, Williams led the
Red Raiders to the South West Conference
rushing and passing titles in 1992 and 1993.
Williams resides in Alva with
his wife Barbara. They have a son, Courtney,
who is a junior at Stillman (Ala.) College and
daughter, Blair, who is attending the
University of Alabama.

Clay Moose
Assistant Coach - Defensive Coord./Recruiting Coord.
Clay Moose joins the Ranger
coaching staff for his first season and will
serve as the defensive coordinator and
recruiting coordinator.
Moose came to Northwestern by
way of Victoria Memorial High School in
Victoria, Texas where he was a teacher and
assistant football coach from 2005-06.
From 2004-05 Moose spent time
working in professional football. In 2004, he
was a regional scout for the Edmonton Eskimos
of the Canadian Football League. He served as
director of player personnel for the
Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings of Arena
Football League 2 from 2004-05.
Moose was in the capacity as a
head coach at Rocky Mountain College, his alma
mater, from 2001-03 and also was the head
coach of the Tokai Bank Red Wave, a team in
Japan’s X-League, from 1996-99.
His first coaching gig was at
St. Cloud State University as a defensive
backs coach and recruiting coordinator during
the 1991-93 seasons. Moose also was the
defensive coordinator at Worcester Polytechnic
Institute from 1993-96 and was the offensive
coordinator at Mount Senario College during
the 1999 and 2000 seasons.
Moose, a 1987 graduate of
Rocky Mountain College, received his master’s
degree in athletic administration in 1999 from
St. Cloud State University.
He resides in Alva.

Jamie Rigdon
Student Assistant Coach -
Defensive Line
Jamie Rigdon enters his first
season on the Ranger staff and will be in
charge of the defensive line.
Rigdon previously was the head
baseball coach at NCAA Div. 1-AA Savannah
State (Ga.) from 1995-2005. During his nine
years, he turned in an exceptional 301-120
record. He is the all-time winningest coach in
school history and from 1997-99 he was named
SIAC Coach of the Year in addition to winning
the conference title. He also served as an
assistant football coach at Savannah State
from 1999-00
Rigdon graduated from Savannah
State in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in
history and a minor in recreation special
population. He lives in Alva with his wife
Stacey and seven children: Wesley (12),
Chandler (11), Hunter (8), Matthew (5), Chase
(4), Iverson (2), and Sharrilynn (1).

Granison Wagstaff
Student Assistant Coach - Line
Backers
Granison Wagstaff begins his
first season with the Rangers and will coach
the linebacking corp.
Wagstaff coached last season
at Carroll (Tex.) High School, where he was in
charge of linebackers. He was selected as a
linebacker’s coach in the Max Emfinger
All-American High School Bowl in Shreveport,
La.
From 1994-1998, Wagstaff
played linebacker and defensive end at the
University of Alabama. The three-year
letterman played in three bowl games
including: the 1995 Florida Citrus Bowl, 1997
Outback Bowl and 1998 Music City Bowl.
Wagstaff graduated from
Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in journalism
in 1998. He is working on his master’s at
Northwestern.

Travis Cole
Student Assistant Coach - Running
Backs
Travis Cole begins his third
season as a student assistant coach for
Northwestern and will move back to coaching
running backs after coaching quarterbacks last
season.
He played two seasons at
Northwestern in two separate tenures (2001 and
2004). Cole caught six passes for 93 yards and
a touchdown in his Ranger career. During the
2002 and 2003 seasons, Cole was a fullback for
Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
Cole, a native of Turpin,
graduated in May of 2006 with a bachelor’s in
health and physical education. Currently, Cole
is working on his master’s degree in secondary
education.
