Todd Clark begins his second season at the helm of the
Lady Rangers and is the fifth coach in the history of Northwestern Lady
Ranger basketball.
Clark came to Northwestern last season after being the
top assistant coach at NCAA Division I University of Texas - San
Antonio. During his two-year stint at UTSA, he helped turn the program
around from seven wins in 1999-2000 to 16 wins in both the 2000-2001 and
2001-2002 seasons and a third place finish in the Southland Conference.
From 1997-2000, Clark was the assistant coach at Cowley
County (Kan.) Community College. In those three seasons, Cowley produced
an outstanding 91-9 record and took the Jayhawk East Conference
championship each year.
Clark began his college coaching career as the head
women’s coach at Kansas Newman University from 1989-1993 and has held
assistant positions at Pratt (Kan.) Community College and Colby (Kan.)
Community College.
Despite last season’s rocky road, Clark has an
optimistic view of this year. "We are really looking forward to the
challenges a new season brings," he stated. "We hope that our athletic
ability and enthusiasm for the game will help us become a more
competitive team. I believe that we have the opportunity to do good
things this season, but we will have to develop a lot of team
characteristics such as mental toughness and belief in one another if we
want to be competitive in the best NAIA conference."
Clark, a 1986 graduate of Kansas Wesleyan University,
holds a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education and received
his master’s degree in 1996 from Wichita State University in Sports
Administration.
Coach Clark and his wife Candy have a son, Cevin, age 2.
