WICHITA, Kan. – Northwestern opened up its 2009 cross country season at the Friends Invitational in Wichita, Kan. over the weekend. Northwestern’s men’s and women’s teams both took part in the event.
Individually for the women, Krystle Noda led the way with a time of 23:02 that was good enough for 78th place out of 128 runners. Shannon Rose finished in 84th place with a 23:14, while Desirae Guffy recorded a 26:16 for 117th place. Samantha Ramirez turned in a 27:19 and Chelsea Leathers ran the 5K in 30:05.
On the men’s side, Kevin Strawn topped the Ranger runners with a 28:56 in the eight kilometer race and took 40th place out of 117 participants. Brandon Harris came in 88th with a 31:24 and Manuel Vazquez recorded a 31:50 for 92nd. Trevor Bowers rounded out Northwestern’s runners with a 32:27.
Northwestern’s next meet will be on Saturday, September 26 at the Tabor Invitational in Hillsboro, Kan.
