RANGER SOCCER DROPS TWO IN TEXAS SWING

The Northwestern Oklahoma State University soccer team kicked off the 2010 season in south Texas, falling 2-1 to Huston-Tillotson University on Sunday and lost 4-0 to Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas on Monday.

 

In Sunday’s season opener, Huston-Tillotson struck first with a goal in the 30th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Ranger’s Christina Nunez scored in the 67th minute to force a 1-1 tie, but a goal from HTU with five minutes left to play proved to be the game-winner.

 

The Rangers landed all seven of its shots on goal, while the opposition took 10 shots and were on target eight times.

 

Goalkeeper Kelsey Archer picked up eight saves. Cathy Wabenga and Nunez had two shots each, while Taylor Marsh, Nicole Leffingwell and Dianna Combs all took shots.

 

Against Our Lady of the Lake University, Northwestern surrendered to two goals in each half by OLOL.

 

Christina Nunez had half of the Rangers shots, taking and landing on goal four of the team’s eight shots. The Rangers did land six on goal, with two coming from Taylor Clark and one from Taylor Marsh.

 

Our Lady of the Lake shot 17 times, while Archer came away with eight saves on the game.

 

The Rangers will play its home opener on Saturday, September 4, when they host Oklahoma Wesleyan in a 4 p.m. match.
