WINFIELD, Kan. – Northwestern’s women’s golf team shaved 16 strokes in its final day of competition at the South Central Invitational in Winfield, Kan. over the weekend to finish in second place.
The Rangers shot 379 in their opening round and came back to card a 363 on Tuesday to finish 27 strokes behind the tournament champion Oklahoma Baptist University.
“The ladies overcame some challenging conditions and tough competition to finish second,” stated coach Copenhaver. “I was proud of the way the girls fought back in the final round.”
Ida Arvidsson finished third with a pair of 87’s and ended at 30 over par. She ranked second in par 4 scoring and third in par three scoring in the tournament field. Stephanie Martin was five strokes off Arvidsson’s score, shooting a 93-86—179 for fifth place. Brittany Mead ended in a three-way tie for 17th with a 194, while Brittany Meredith shot a 195 for 20th. Two Rangers finished in a tie for 28th, as Cari Hall and Emilee Beard both shot 200. Meagan Scott rounded out the Rangers with 218 for 39th place.
The Ranger women’s next stop is at the Lady Buff Stampede in Amarillo, Tex. on September 28-29.
