WOMEN’S RODEO OPENS SEASON WITH FIRST PLACE FINISH AT COLBY; MEN TAKE FOURTH

COLBY, Kan. – Northwestern’s women’s rodeo team started the season off on the right track, winning the Colby Community College rodeo on September 18-20, while the Ranger men tied for fourth place.

 

The women’s team had no trouble claiming first place in the 10-team event, doing so by 350 points. Northwestern tallied 555 points, followed by Southeastern Oklahoma State, who had 205 points. 

 

Haley Nida placed second in the women’s all-around with 150 points, taking third in barrel racing and fifth in breakaway roping.

 

Jessica Koppir took first place in team roping as the header, while Jenna Jolly tied for fourth in the event with Molly Bates.

 

In breakaway roping, NWOSU took four of the top five places, with Janise Blanton winning the event with a 5.9. Cindy Wood claimed second, while Jacey Jandreau took fourth and Nida’s fifth place finish rounded out the event for Northwestern.

 

Three women place in goat tying. Toy Vogt led the event with a first place finish. Kari Cable was second and Lindsey Hollond finished in a tie for sixth.

 

The men’s team finished in a tie for fourth place along with Garden City Community College (Kan.) at 235 points. Southeastern Oklahoma State took the rodeo with 405 points.

 

Jesse Cassingham was the only Ranger to place in saddle bronc, earning a seventh place finish.

 

In bareback riding, Chancy Lovinggood took third, followed by Kenny Fielder’s fourth place.

 

Clint Kindred and Perry Dietz placed in tie down roping, finishing fifth and ninth, respectively.

 

Kody Delbert tied for second in steer wrestling, while Clint Kindred was a seventh place finisher.

 

In team roping, Levi Burson placed third with Daniel Reed of Southeastern. Tanner Lee finished in second as a heeler. Clay Phillips landed in a three-way tie for fourth place also as a heeler.

 

Northwestern’s next rodeo will be at Pratt Community College in Pratt, Kan. on October 2-4.
