Seven of Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s 10 athletic teams were honored by the NAIA this week, receiving recognition as being a 2009-10 NAIA Scholar Team.
For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar Team award, it must have a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade point average must include all varsity student-athletes certified as eligible.
Shane Hansen and his men’s and women’s cross country teams both graced the list. Other teams were: women’s basketball, coached by Milburn Barton; baseball, coached by Ryan Bay; women’s golf, coached by Shawna Bivin; women’s softball, coached by Cody Hooper; and soccer, coached by Steve Barrows.
“Our student-athletes and coaches deserve a pat on the back,” stated Athletic Director Bob Battisti. “They have worked hard and truly understand schools exist to educate people.”
The seven teams are the most that Northwestern Oklahoma State University has had in a single season on the NAIA Scholar Team list.
