After playing five games at the Sooner Athletic Conference Softball Tournament at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, the Ranger softball team combined for a 3-2 record over the weekend to finish their season with a 28-27 overall record. Northwestern finished in third place, behind Oklahoma City University and Lubbock Christian University.
Northwestern began the tournament with a 10-5 win over St. Gregory’s University in the 11 a.m. game on Friday. The Rangers scored in every inning but the first and seventh innings, using a four runs second dinning to grab a lead and run with it.
In the 3 p.m. winner’s bracket game, Northwestern met No. 9 Oklahoma City University. Down 4-2 in the final inning, the Rangers left runners on second and third base to end the game.
The Rangers faced Rogers State in the final game on Friday, taking a 4-1 win to propel them into Saturday’s games. Against Rogers State, NWOSU scored first with a three run fourth inning and added a run in the fifth. Natalie Vasquez was responsible for two runs with her fifth home run of the season.
Northwestern played an 11 a.m. Saturday game against Southern Nazarene University and advanced with a 4-3 win.
The Ranger’s met Oklahoma City again, this time in an elimination game to get to the championship. Northwestern’s season was halted by the Stars, falling 5-2.
Oklahoma City and Lubbock Christian remain alive and will battle it out for the tournament championship.
