CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Ranger softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader on Thursday, Apr. 7, as Rogers State held Northwestern to just three runs. The Rangers fell 6-1 in the opener and dropped game two by a 10-2 margin.
Northwestern’s only run of the first game came during the first inning, when Kellie Mason’s single to right center scored Therese Beeler.
Rogers State used a big fourth inning, scoring four runs to take a 5-1 lead through four innings.
The Rangers picked up six hits, while Mason led the way with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Mason (7-10) was handed the loss after pitching 4.1 innings. Ashton Fitzgerald pitched the final five outs.
In game two, Northwestern was just a hit shy of Rogers State, being outhit 10-9. Out of 10 Hillcat hits, eight were for extra bases. RSU hit four home runs, a triple and three doubles.
Katie Thomas had the only extra base hit for Northwestern with a double. Thomas, Beeler and Meagan Lack all had two-hits in the game, while Thomas picked up both RBI’s.
Ashton Fitzgerald (1-2) started the game in the circle and went 2.1 innings before giving way to Renea Tarwater.
The Rangers (10-19, 2-14) will stay in Claremore over the weekend to play in the Border War Invitational. Northwestern will play two games on Friday, Apr. 8, followed by three games on Saturday.
