STERLING, Kan. – Northwestern scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to hold onto a 12-11 victory over Sterling College (Kan.) in game one and run-ruled the Warriors, 10-2, in the nightcap en route to a series sweep on on Monday night.
Trailing 11-5 headed into the final inning of game one, the Rangers exploded for seven runs in the top of the seventh inning with the help of three hits and two Sterling errors.
Kellie Mason faced five batters in the bottom of the seventh, striking out two, while picking up her first save of the season.
Katie Parsons started in the circle and pitched two outs before being lifted for Renea Tarwater, who threw 5.1 innings of relief. Tarwater struck out six and gave up five hits, while recording her first win of the season.
Despite being outhit 11-7, Heather Brewer led NWOSU with a 2-for-3 performance.
Northwestern scored in every inning but the third in game two, run-ruling Sterling 10-2.
Ashton Fitzgerald pitched four innings and evened her record to 1-1.
Three players had multi-hit games as Therese Beeler went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs batted in and three runs scored. Katie Thomas and Kellie Mason both had two hits.
Northwestern (9-16, 1-11) hosts St. Gregory’s in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at the Alva Rec. Complex on Tuesday, Apr. 5.
