OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Ranger softball team defeated #24 Columbia College (Mo.) in their opening game of the Domino’s Capital City Classic played at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. Northwestern fell in the final three games of the classic, falling to 13-29 on the season.
Ashton Fitzgerald picked up the win in the opener against Columbia, pitching a complete game. She struck out six batters and allowed three earned runs.
After being down 2-1 after three innings, Northwestern tacked on five runs in the fourth inning to lead to the 6-3 victory. The Rangers tallied six hits with Heather Brewer leading the way with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.
In the second game on Friday, Northwestern dropped a 7-3 game to Central Baptist (Ark.). Despite outhitting the opposition, 9-8, Central Baptist used a five-run fifth inning to aid in the win.
The Rangers succumbed to a pair of six inning run-rule losses on Saturday, falling 12-4 to Central Baptist and 10-2 in a non-conference game with Oklahoma City.
Northwestern combined for seven hits on the day, picking up four against Central Baptist and three versus Oklahoma City.
The Rangers (13-29, 4-16) will take to the road for their final time of the regular season, traveling to Edmond on Tuesday, Apr. 19 to take on Oklahoma Christian. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. of the doubleheader.
