OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Northwestern softball team pulled off a doubleheader sweep of Oklahoma Baptist University, winning 12-4 and 7-4 at Ann Lacy Stadium on the campus of Oklahoma City University, after the teams moved the games up a day because of the threat of weather conditions.
The Rangers had three big innings in the first game, scoring five runs in the second inning, three runs in the third inning and four runs in the fifth inning. Oklahoma Baptist’s four runs came in the top of the third inning.
Ashley Lovelady hit two doubles and had four runs batted in, while Therese Beeler also doubled. Both Rangers had three hits in the game. Christina Mueller drove in three runs and hit her fourth home run of the season.
Jacey Juden pitched the Rangers to victory in the five-inning run rule. She struck out five batters and allowed four runs.
Juden advanced to 16-12 on the season with a complete-game win in the nightcap. She fanned two and walked one in her 18th complete game of the season.
Northwestern led 5-4 after three innings and added insurance runs in the fourth inning, on Juden’s RBI single, and during the sixth inning, as Ashley Lovelady hit her sixth home run of the season.
Again, Lovelady had three hits in the game, along with a pair of runs batted in, a double and a home run. Juden also netted three hits along with three runs batted in as the duo accounted for six of the Rangers’ nine hits.
With the sweep over Oklahoma Baptist, Northwestern improved to 23-21 overall and to 14-16 in conference play. The Rangers play at Claremore on Tuesday, April 20 in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
