WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Senior Trenton Johnson of Mound City, Kan. won his third all-around title in as many weeks, while the Northwestern Oklahoma State University men’s rodeo team finished in fourth place at the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Rodeo. Northwestern’s women’s team placed eighth in the event.
Johnson finished with 205 points in the all-around, 105 points ahead of his closest competitor. Along with header Ryan Bothum of Southeastern, Johnson finished first in team roping with a time of 12.7. He finished in fifth place in tie down roping with a 22.5.
In addition to Johnson in tie-down roping, Perry Dietz finished a spot ahead of Johnson, finishing fourth with a 21.4.
Lucas Camac won the steer wrestling title with an 11.7, while Travis Cowan finished fourth in team roping as a header with an 18.5.
Two women’s participants placed in the rodeo. Brooke Boulware placed fourth in breakaway roping with a 9.3, while Toya Vogt finished in a tie for fifth place with a 16.2.
The Northwestern men, who are third in the region standings with 2,745 points, are 142.5 points back of second place Fort Scott Community College. Oklahoma Panhandle State University remains in the lead with 3,730 points.
Six cowboys are fifth are better in the region, including: Trey Young – 2nd in tie down roping, Kody Woodward – 1st in steer wrestling, Trenton Johnson – 2nd in steer wrestling, Lucas Camac – 4th in steer wrestling, Chase Boekhaus – 5th in team roping (header), and Tanner Braden – 1st in team roping (heeler).
The women’s team is currently seventh in the region with 586.66 points. Western Oklahoma State University leads the way with 1,900.83 points.
The Ranger rodeo teams will head to Fort Hays State University Rodeo in Hays, Kan. on April 15-17.
