GARDEN CITY, Kan. – The Ranger men’s and women’s rodeo teams performed well over the weekend at Garden City, Kan., with both teams taking second place in the rodeo.
The Ranger men scored 435 points for a second place finish to Western Oklahoma State College, who won the rodeo with a score of 595.
Kody Woodward was the only Ranger to place in steer wrestling, winning the event with a 9.0.
Five teams placed in team roping for the Rangers. Brett Christensen and Tyrell Reynolds took fourth place, followed by Ty Smith and Dawson McMaster. Coming in sixth and seventh, was Jordan Sanders/Trenton Johnson and Bradley Bullock/Rylan Blankenship, respectively. William Morris and Stoney Humble finished in ninth.
In bareback riding, Chancy Lovinggood was awarded third place with a 149 and Kenny Feidler followed in fourth with a 146.
Johnny Shore placed fifth in bull riding with a score of 134.
Northwestern’s women’s team finished 65 points away from winner Oklahoma Panhandle State University, as NWOSU scored 230 points.
Toya Vogt took first place in the breakaway roping with a 5.6, while three other cowgirls from Northwestern placed in the event. Janise Blanton and Gabriel Gregg both tied for fourth, while Nicole Brandemuehl finished in ninth.
Two women placed in goat tying. Brooke Boulware was awarded seventh place, while Kari Cable took home eighth.
Currently, the women’s team sits at the top of the Central Plains Region standings, as they are 310 points ahead of second place Southwestern Oklahoma State University. On the men’s side, the Rangers are fourth in the region, 405 points from first place Oklahoma Panhandle State.
The men’s and women’s rodeo team’s next rodeo will be at Fort Scott, Kansas on March 12-14.
