SHAWNEE, Okla. – Northwestern dropped its fourth consecutive game on Friday as the Rangers were swept 7-1, 3-1 in the final two games of the Oklahoma Baptist series played in Shawnee.
Northwestern’s only run in the opener came in the second inning on Quinton Haynes first home run of the season. Oklahoma Baptist struck for five runs in the bottom of the third inning and added single runs in the second and fourth innings. The Rangers were out hit 8-5.
Haynes and J.C. Aguayo had two hits in the game, while Wade Schwerdtfeger had one. On the mound, Garry Thomas took the loss, pitching 2.2 innings.
After one inning of play in the nightcap, the score was tied 1-1. The Rangers run came on George Flores sacrifice fly that scored Chris Russell who pinch ran for Haynes after a single to lead off the inning.
The Bison added another run two innings later and then another solo run in the fifth inning.
Northwestern only mustered three singles as Michael Ciombor had two and Haynes had the other. Ben Dorman went 4.1 innings in taking the loss on the mound.
The Rangers (10-6, 2-4) plays a pair of non-conference games on Sunday, Mar. 6 when they host Friends (Kan.) for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Myers Stadium.
