RANGER SOFTBALL CAPTURES SWEEP OF MID-AMERICA CHRISTIAN IN CONFERENCE OPENER

RANGER SOFTBALL CAPTURES SWEEP OF MID-AMERICA CHRISTIAN IN CONFERENCE OPENERALVA, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State softball team came away with two victories in its first Sooner Athletic Conference matchup of the season, defeating Mid-America Christian, 6-5 and 8-3 at the Alva Rec. Complex on Tuesday.

 

In the opener, senior catcher Natalie Vazquez broke a 5-5 tie with a two-out, walk-off double to right-center field, plating Jacey Juden who started the inning off with a single.

 

After Mid-America jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead, Northwestern picked up three runs in the bottom of the second on two Evangel errors. Mid-America tacked on three more runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 5-4 lead. A Katie Glenn single in the bottom of the sixth tied the game for the Rangers.

 

Juden (1-2) recorded the win, striking out five batters and allowing 11 hits for complete-game. She helped herself out offensively, going 2-for-4. Glenn drove in two runs, along with picking up two hits in four trips to the plate.  

 

In game two, Northwestern used two four-run innings, the second and fifth innings, providing all the run support they needed.

 

Mid America crossed the plate twice in the second inning and once in the third, before the Rangers received a solo home run from Vasquez and a three-run blast to left field off the bat of Ashley Lovelady, putting the Rangers on top 4-3.

 

Northwestern used four hits and an error in the fifth inning to tack on another four run inning. NWOSU held MACU scoreless during the last four innings.

 

The Rangers picked up nine hits, with Lovelady, Glenn and Vasquez responsible for a pair of hits each.

 

Juden (2-2) earned her second win of the season pitching another complete game. She gave up seven hits and two earned runs while fanning two batters.

 

Northwestern (4-4, 2-0) will head to Edmond on Thursday, March 4 for a doubleheader with Oklahoma Christian.
