NORTHWESTERN SOFTBALL SWEPT BY NO. 7 OKLAHOMA CITY IN SAC OPENER

Heather HokeahALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State dropped its first Sooner Athletic Conference games of the season, as No. 7 Oklahoma City defeated NWOSU 8-1, 7-0 in doubleheader action on Tuesday.

 

In game one, Northwestern’s lone run came on Kati Jo Gabaldon’s solo home run to left field, leading the Rangers to a 1-0 lead. Oklahoma City scored a run in each of the third and fourth innings, taking a 2-1 advantage.

 

The Stars added five runs on six hits and three Ranger errors, to extend their lead to 7-1.

 

Meagan Lack took the loss and dropped to 2-3 on the season. Lack pitched 5.1 innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out two. Amy Ramirez pitched an inning and two-thirds in relief, allowing one run.

 

Oklahoma City tallied 14 hits, as six players posted multi-hit games.

 

The Ranger totaled six hits, with Heather Hokeah leading the way with a 3-for-3 performance. Jeana Hancock and Natalie Vasquez had singles in the game.

 

In the nightcap, the Northwestern suffered its first shutout of the season, as Oklahoma City took the 7-0 win.

 

The Rangers were held to just two hits, as Tanya Parker and Natalie Vasquez both singled.

 

Oklahoma City had 11 hits, as both teams committed one error each.

 

Amy Ramirez (3-1) recorded her first loss of the season, giving up two earned runs and four hits in two innings of work. Renea Tarwater relieved for the final five innings, striking out two batters and allowing three runs.

 

Northwestern (7-6, 0-2) will travel to Claremore on Thursday, March 5 to take on Rogers State in doubleheader action beginning at 2 p.m.
