Softball Wins First SAC Game, Splits with Oklahoma Baptist

Softball Wins First SAC Game, Splits with Oklahoma BaptistALVA, Okla. – Northwestern picked up its first Sooner Athletic Conference win of the season in game two of a doubleheader against Oklahoma Baptist, falling 2-1 in the last inning of game one and defeating the Bison 3-1 in game two.

Northwestern’s only run in the opener came in the third inning when Stephanie Hines singled in Therese Beeler.

Oklahoma Baptist scored its two runs in the top of the seventh inning before the Rangers ended the game unable to score a runner from third base in the bottom of the seventh.

Five players had five hits as the Rangers were outhit 8-5. Kellie Mason pitched all seven innings and struck out three batters.

In the second game, both teams opened the first inning each scoring a run. Northwestern pushed a run across in the fourth and fifth innings with Meagan Lack doubling in the fourth and Kylee Wilson singling in a run in during the fifth.

Hit totals were reversed as the Rangers picked up eight and the Bison had five. Beeler led the Rangers with a flawless 3-for-3 performance and Wilson added two hits in three at bats.

Mason evened her record to 6-6 as she went the distance. She gave up one earned run in 29 batters faced.

Northwestern (7-14, 1-9) hosts Mid-America Christian in doubleheader action on Tuesday, Mar. 29 at 3 p.m.
