SHAWNEE, Okla. – The NAIA’s fourth-ranked St. Gregory’s Cavaliers shutout the Ranger softball team in a pair of games on Tuesday, March 24, as SGU downed Northwestern 8-0 and 7-0 in Shawnee.
In the opening game, Jackie Kopacek had both Ranger hits, while St. Gregory’s recorded 10 hits off of Ranger pitching. Meagan Lack pitched 4.1 innings and struck out two and Amy Ramirez came on in relief to throw the final 1.1 innings.
St. Gregory’s runs came in three innings. The Cavaliers scored four in the first inning, three in the fifth and a solo run in the sixth.
Northwestern could only muster two hits again in the second game, with a Tanya Parker double and a single from Tiffani Schmidt.
Renea Tarwater took the loss on the mound, pitching five innings and fanning two batters. Amy Ramirez didn’t allow a run in her one inning of relief.
The Rangers (13-20, 2-8) play Oklahoma Christian in Edmond on Thursday, March 26 in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
