ALVA, Okla. – The Ranger baseball team recorded its 10th straight win after a 14-4 run-rule victory over Central Christian (Kan.) on Wednesday at Ranger Field. The win upped the Rangers record to 21-10 on the season.
James McMurphy improved his undefeated record to 4-0, pitching 6.1 innings and scattering six hits. McMurphy struck out six batters in 30 batters faced. Jarad Moore was hitless in relief, pitching an inning and two-thirds and striking out two.
Tom Huddleston, Chris Williams and Vincent Valdez had four hits each, while Northwestern accumulated 21 hits as a team. Valdez added a home run along with Anthony Cros, and four Rangers had doubles, with Huddleston and Valdez hitting two doubles a piece.
With the bases loaded for Central Christian in the third inning, McMurphy escaped a bases loaded scare as a strike out and a line out ended a possible rally for Central Christian.
After Moore took over in the sixth, the Rangers got some fine leather, turning a 1-2-3 double play and getting out of the inning with the bases loaded again and one out.
Northwestern (21-10, 8-4) resumes conference play on Friday, March 27 with a doubleheader with Lubbock Christian (Tex.). The two teams will meet again on Saturday for a nine inning game beginning at 1 p.m.
