BETHANY, Okla. – The Ranger softball team dropped a pair of conference games to the 18th ranked Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm on Thursday. Northwestern was the victim on both ends of the doubleheader, falling 4-0 in the opener and 6-1 in game two.
Southern Nazarene scored a run in the first inning of the opening game and followed with three runs in the fifth inning on four hits and two Ranger miscues.
Northwestern had three different players with a hit. Kellie Mason took the loss to fall to 5-4 on the season. Mason allowed just one earned run in 4.2 innings of work. She fanned three batters and gave up six hits. Ashton Fitzgerald followed with 1.1 innings pitched.
The Rangers’ only run of the day came in the seventh inning of the final game as Heather Brewer drove in Mason on an RBI double to left center. Northwestern had four hits, all from different players.
Mason evened her record to 5-5 after pitching 3.1 innings. Fitzgerald followed with 1.2 innings in the circle and Renea Tarwater threw the final inning.
Northwestern (6-13, 0-8) returns to Alva on Saturday, Mar. 26 for a noon doubleheader with Oklahoma Baptist.
