The Ranger softball team dropped a doubleheader to Rogers State on Tuesday afternoon at the Alva Rec. Complex, falling 6-4 in the opener and 8-0 in game two.
Rogers State pushed across two runs in the top of the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie and take game one.
Both teams scored runs in the first inning and the Hillcats extended their lead to 4-1 with a run in the third inning and two more runs in the fourth inning.
Northwestern rallied for a pair of runs in the fourth inning as Allison Widener singled in Katie Thomas, who led the inning off with a single. Ashley Lovelady drove in the second run of the inning with a single through the left side that scored Alysha Taylor.
The Rangers tied the game in the bottom of the fifth when Therese Beeler scored on a wild pitch.
Both teams posted 11 hits, with Lovelady, Widener and McKenna Wilson all having two hits. Lovelady and Wilson both had doubles in the game.
Renea Tarwater went the first five innings in the circle, striking out one and allowing eight hits and two earned runs. Jacey Juden (5-7) was handed the loss, pitching two innings. She allowed two runs on three hits.
The Ranger offense couldn’t get going in game two, as the Rangers were outhit 13-3 in the 8-0 five-inning run-rule.
Dakota Palmer, Natalie Vasquez and Lovelady were the lone Rangers to have hits, all with singles.
Meagan Lack (3-1) pitched 2.1 innings and fanned two batters before Renea Tarwater held the Hillcats scoreless during the final 2.2 innings.
Northwestern (11-13, 4-9) will host No. 3 Lubbock Christian (Tex.) in Sooner Athletic Conference action at the Alva Rec. Complex on Friday, March 26. The doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m.
