Northwestern’s softball team won three of four games splitting with Northwood (Tex.) on Tuesday and sweeping Texas Wesleyan on Wednesday. The Rangers won the opener against Northwood 7-3 and fell 9-4 in the second game. Northwestern downed Texas Wesleyan 8-2 and 6-5.
The Rangers scored three runs in the first and sixth innings and a run in the second inning to take the 7-3 win in the opening game against Northwood.
Northwestern doubled Northwood’s output, slugging 12 hits. Stephanie Hines led NWOSU with a 4-for-4 performance with three runs batted in and a runs scored.
Kellie Mason evened her record to 3-3 in the circle as she pitched a complete game. Mason struck out four batters, allowed an earned run and six hits as she faced 30 batters.
Katie Thomas hit her second home run of the year and added a double as Northwestern was out hit 8-5 in the 9-4 loss. Jasmine Braxton (1-3) took the loss pitching 3.1 innings, before being relieved for 2.2 innings from Ashton Fitzgerald.
The Rangers combined for 19 hits in the doubleheader against Texas Wesleyan, with 11 hits coming in game one.
Mason picked up another complete game win in the opener, striking out six batters and giving up two earned runs and seven hits. Mason also led the Rangers offensively as she was 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run, two runs scored and drove in a pair of runs.
Braxton doubled down the left field line to score Heather Brewer in the top of the eighth inning and held on for the 6-5 extra inning win in game two against Texas Wesleyan.
Mason picked up her second win of the day pitching 2.2 innings of relief. Fitzgerald started the game and went three innings before Renea Tarwater went 2.1 innings. Mason blanked TWU and only gave up a hit.
Therese Beeler turned in a three-hit performance as Mason was 2-for-3 with a home run.
The Rangers (6-11, 0-6) will be idle until Thursday, Mar. 24 when Northwestern travels to Bethany to take on Southern Nazarene in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
