LUBBOCK, Tex. – Fifth-ranked Lubbock Christian (Tex.) used four runs in the sixth inning of game one to overcome Northwestern 6-3 and blanked the Rangers 6-0 in game two during doubleheader action in Lubbock, Tex. on Saturday.
Lubbock Christian jumped to a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the opener, but the Rangers tied it at 1-1 in the fifth inning. The Chaps went up by a run scoring a solo run in the fifth inning and the Rangers struck with a run in the sixth to tie the game at 2-2.
LCU did most of the damage in the sixth inning as they scored four runs on five hits. Northwestern scored a single run in the seventh.
Northwestern picked up eight hits, as Stephanie Hines, Meagan Lack and Heather Brewer all had two-hit performances. Kellie Mason fell to 2-3 on the season, pitching 5.2 innings. She allowed 11 hits and five earned runs while fanning two batters.
Kylee Wilson was Northwestern’s only offense in the second game. Wilson was 2-for-3 with two singles as the Rangers were outhit 8-2.
Jasmine Braxton (1-2) was in the circle for 4.2 innings and allowed three earned runs of the six scored. Renea Tarwater pitched the last four outs, facing five batters.
Lubbock Christian scored three runs in the first inning and third innings.
Northwestern (3-10, 0-6) will head to Cedar Hill, Texas to take on Northwood (Tex.) in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday, Mar. 15.
