SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Ranger softball team split games with Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee on Thursday, winning game one 8-6, before falling 8-4 in game two.
Northwestern took a 3-1 lead after the first inning, as the Rangers scored all three runs without a hit. NWOSU tacked on two more runs in the second inning when Christina Mueller doubled in Stephanie Hines and Ashley Lovelady.
The Rangers scored three runs in the fifth inning, owning an 8-2 lead.
OBU didn’t go away without a fight, scoring four runs in the seventh inning.
Lovelady, the Rangers’ leadoff hitter, sparked the Rangers as she was 3-for-5 in the opener. Lovelady had three of Northwestern’s eight hits.
Meagan Lack (3-0) was awarded the win as she went 6.1 innings. She gave up six hits while fanning one batter. Renea Tarwater faced two batters before Jacey Juden closed the game out, recording her third save of the season.
In game two, the Rangers held a 4-0 lead after three and half innings of play. That lead proved to not be safe as Oklahoma Baptist staged an eight-run fifth inning. The Bison did so on eight hits and two Ranger errors.
Northwestern was outhit 10-8 in the nightcap. Allison Widener and Hines picked up two hits each, as Widener hit her second home run of the season.
Jacey Juden (5-3) was pinned with the loss in the circle. She struck out three batters and gave up 10 hits in five innings pitched.
The Ranger softball team (10-4, 4-3) will host Oklahoma City University on Tuesday, March 16 at the Alva Rec. Complex.
