CHICKASHA, Okla. – The Ranger softball team fell in doubleheader action in Chickasha to the University of Science and Arts on Tuesday by scores of 5-4 and 8-1.
Northwestern pushed across two runs in the top of the first inning during game one, but USAO combated with three runs in the bottom of the first. The Drovers added a run in the third inning to take a 4-2 lead.
The Rangers scored a single run in the fourth inning as Heather Brewer scored Katie Glenn who tripled. Northwestern tied the game at 4-4 in the fifth inning as Megan Burditt scored on a throwing error.
After Northwestern was retired in order in the sixth and seventh innings, USAO scored on a walk off double to left field in the seventh inning.
The Rangers had five hits from five different players while Meagan Lack took the loss in the circle. Jasmine Braxton started the game and pitched six innings and gave up five hits. Lack pitched two thirds of an inning and was charged with two hits and an earned run.
In game two, USAO jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three innings. Northwestern’s only run came in the top of the fourth inning. USAO tacked on four runs in the fourth inning and solo runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Northwestern had three hits in the game with doubles from Katie Thomas and Cheyenne Harper and a single from Katie Glenn.
Kellie Mason received the loss in game two, pitching 3.1 innings. She gave up seven hits and struck out three batters. Renea Tarwater pitched the final 2.2 innings.
The Rangers (2-4, 0-4) head to Wichita, Kan. to play in the Friends Tournament on March 4-5.
