The 29th annual 5K Ranger Run and One Mile Fun Run will take place on Oct. 18 as part of Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s annual homecoming celebration. The races will start promptly at 8 a.m. from in front of the Rialto Theatre.

Registration fees are $15 for the Ranger Run and $10 for the Fun Run if participants sign up by Oct. 13; however, registration will be open the day of the races for an additional $5.

All participants will receive an official homecoming t-shirt.

Many prizes will be awarded to winners in the Ranger Run, including medals and gift certificates to the J.R. Holder Wellness Center going to the top three finishers in each division; trophies, Alva Chamber Bucks and certificates to the first overall male and female runners; and new to the race -- Alva Chamber Bucks to the first alumni male and female runners. Awards also will be given to the top three in both divisions of the Fun Run.

The Ranger Run is divided into seven different age categories (12 or less through 60+ years) while the Fun Run has two age categories (12 or less and 13+).

“The Ranger Run is a fun event during homecoming week that gives the community a chance to give back,” Emilee Beard, assistant director of the J.R. Holder Wellness Center, said.  “Members of the Wellness Center staff work with the Alumni Association/Foundation to put on this event and keep it running smoothly.  It gives all of us a chance to get our names out there, while spreading health and wellness.  We encourage community members, students, and especially alumni to enter the Ranger Run.”

Beard noted the addition of the new award this year in giving Alva Chamber Bucks for the alumni runners.  The award was added to try to encourage more Northwestern alumni to enter the event.

More information and the entry form to enter the races can be found at www.nwosu.edu/ranger-run or contact the Northwestern Alumni Association office at (580) 327-8593 or at nwalumni@nwosu.edu.
