Freshman Queen, Ranger King & Queen announced

 2009 Freshman Queen
Janel Mitchell was crowned as Northwestern’s Freshman Queen during the Royalty Banquet ceremony Tuesday.
Janel Mitchell, Arnett freshman, was crowned Freshman Queen at Northwestern Oklahoma State University Tuesday during one of the first official events leading to the university’s annual homecoming celebration next week.

Mitchell is a mass communications major. She also is a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha, the Student Government Association (SGA), President’s Leadership Class, Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association (OBEA) and the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). She is the daughter of John and Karen Mitchell.

2009 Ranger Queen finalists
Brooke Butler, Becky Burke and Ashlynn Frey were named as finalists for Ranger Queen during the Royalty Banquet on Tuesday. The 2009 Ranger Queen will be announced during halftime of the Homecoming football game on Saturday, Oct. 24. 

The finalists for Ranger Queen and Ranger King were announced, and a run-off election will take place next week to determine the Ranger Queen. They will be crowned at halftime of the football game with Bacone College on Saturday, Oct. 24. Mitchell and the finalists also will ride in the homecoming parade, which begins at 10 a.m. that day.

Ranger Queen finalists are Brooke Butler, Crescent junior; Becky Burke, Oilton junior; and Ashlynn Frey, Lahoma junior.

Butler is a psychology major and likes to play guitar. She is active in FCA and the Baptist Student Union (BSU). Butler is sponsored by the BSU, and is the daughter of Kent and Tamra Butler and Jeff and Niecy Holley.

Ranger King 2009
Charlie Burns was chosen as Ranger King on Tuesday. He will meet his Ranger Queen during halftime of the Ranger football game against Bacone College on Saturday, Oct. 24. Game time is set for 3 p.m.

Burke is a mass communications and theatre major. She also is a photographer for the Northwestern News and the sports anchor for NWTV. Burke is involved in OBEA, SPJ, Castle Players, Conserving Our Ranger Environment and theatre. She is sponsored by OBEA and SPJ. She is the daughter of Tim and Lorie Burke.

Frey is a biology and secondary education major and is sponsored by Delta Zeta where she is a member. She also is a member of the Northwestern Scholar Ambassadors and the BSU. Frey also is a past Miss Northwestern and Miss Cinderella winner. She is the daughter of Larry and Vicki Frey.

Northwestern’s Ranger King is Charlie Burns, Sayre senior. He is a senior speech/ theatre and mass communications double major. He is sponsored by the Castle Players. He currently is a member of Castle Players, SGA, Phi Delta, choir, band, CORE and “Weast Watch.” Burns is the son of Robert and Susan Garrett and Larry Burns.
