University Chorale- Glory Road: The Art of the Spiritual, October 9, 7:30 p.m., First Presbyterian Church, 629 Church St., Alva

  • Join the University Chorale as they present a program that traces the poignant and dramatic evolution of the African-American Spiritual.  The program will feature works by some of the most beloved composers and arrangers of all time, including Robert Fountain, H.T. Burleigh, Jester Hairston, Mark Heyes, Thomas A. Dorsey, R. Nathaniel Dett, Andre Thomas, William Dawson and Moses Hogan. 

University Singers and Concert Choir- My Spirit Sang All Day, October 13, 7:30 p.m., First Baptist Church, 714 College Avenue, Alva

 

  • Join the University Singers and the NWOSU Concert Choir as they present songs celebrating the joy of singing.  Featured works will include Bach’s Kantate #50: Nun ist das Heil und die Kraft, Jean Belmont’s If Music be the Food of Love, Salamone Rossi’s Al Naharot Bavel, and Gerald Finzi’s My Spirit Sang All Day.

University Singers and Chorale- Gloria!, December 3, 7:30 p.m., Zion Lutheran Church, 3rd and Maple, Alva

  • The University Singers and University Chorale will join forces to present a holiday performance that will include works by Guillaume Du Fay, John Rutter and Flor Peeters as well as the beloved Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi.

Fine Arts Holiday Concert, December 5, 2008, 7:30 p.m., Herod Hall Auditorium

  • The NWOSU Concert Choir and the Ranger Band will present their traditional annual Holiday spectacular.

  • Join the University Singers and Chorale as they present a rollicking concert of choral music from some of the most celebrated operas of all time.

Concert Choir: Requiem, April 28, 7:30 p.m., First Baptist Church, 714 College Avenue, Alva

 

  • Join the NWOSU Concert Choir as they present the beautiful and haunting Requiem by John Rutter.

  

2009-2010 Special Events

NWOSU All-State Choir Workshop, September 19, 8:30-5:00 p.m., Student Center Ballroom and the Herod Hall Auditorium

  • The Department of Fine Arts at Northwestern is proud to invite any high school student who is interested in auditioning for the Oklahoma All-Sate Choir to campus for a day of rehearsal devoted to learning the All-State audition music. The day's activities will be capped-off by a performance of that music at 4:30 p.m. in the Herod Hall Auditorium.

President's Prize Song Competition, November 22, 2009, 2:00 p.m., Fine Arts Room 200

  • An afternoon event featuring competitive performance by students currently studying applied voice at Northwestern.

OSSAA District Vocal Contest, March 2, 2010, 8:00 a.m.-5:00p.m., Various Locations

Alumni Concert Choir, April 24 , 2010, 8:00 a.m.-5:00p.m., Fine Arts Room 200 and Herod Hall Auditorium
  • The third annual Alumni Concert Coir will bring together alumni from across the region to meet for a day of music-making and camaraderie. The group will rehearse from 8:30-4:30 before presenting a concert at 4:30.
