ALVA, Okla. – The Lady Ranger basketball team claimed a late win over conference foe Mid-America Christian University on Saturday night in Percefull Fieldhouse, downing the Lady Evangel 64-58.
Northwestern fought back from an eight-point deficit with 13:21 to go and knotted the game up at 54-54 with 4:47 left. The Lady Rangers went down by two points two separate times, bringing the game to the third tie in the final five minutes, tied 58-58 with 1:48 remaining.
Rachel Wilczek nailed a three-pointer on an assist from Audrey Richmond with 17 seconds remaining, giving Northwestern a three-point lead.
After a MACU turnover and a technical foul, The Lady Rangers hit three free throws to put the icing on the cake and claim the win.
Talytha Williams paced Northwestern with 14 points. She was followed by 13 points from Autumn Klugh and 10 points from Claudia Vazquez, who was a rebound shy of a double-double.
The Lady Rangers hit 37 percent from the field, a percent short of the opposition. NWOSU was 4-of-21 form beyond the arc and 14-of-20 from the free throw line.
Mid-America was led by Brittany Woodard and Marcy Robinson’s 16 point performances.
Northwestern (9-11, 5-10) will play Southern Nazarene for the second time this season as the Lady Rangers head to Bethany for a 6 p.m. game on Thursday, Feb. 10.
