ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Northwestern cheerleading squad finished in the top five of 10 teams in Saturday’s preliminary round at the 2011 Collegiate Cheerleading and Dance Championships held at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif.
Northwestern will perform at 10:21 CST on Sunday, Feb. 27 against four other squads including: Fresno State University (Calif.), Boise State University (Idaho), Brigham Young University (Utah) and Regina University (Canada). The Rangers are the only non-NCAA Division I team to make it to the finals.
The Rangers scored an 81.1 in the preliminary round to advance to Sunday’s final round. The highest score recorded was an 87.1. Forty percent of the preliminary score and 60 percent of the final round will make up the composite score.
“We are extremely proud of how hard they have worked and accomplished more than we could have ever imagined,” stated head coach Kaylyn Hansen. “Their hard work and dedication has made them a top five USA National Cheerleading squad.”
