SHAWNEE, Okla. – After taking games one and two on Saturday, Northwestern fell on Sunday in the final game of the St. Gregory’s series, dropping a 5-2 game to the Cavaliers in Shawnee on Sunday.
Neither team scored until the Cavaliers pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Northwestern knotted the game at 2-2 in the top of the seventh as George Flores led off the inning with a homer and Michael Ciombor’s sacrifice fly to left field scored Juan Natal, who walked.
The Cavaliers added a pair of runs in the seventh inning and a single run in the eighth to round out the scoring.
Northwestern outhit St. Gregory’s 8-7, but committed three errors that led to four unearned runs.
Four Rangers had hits in the game while George Flores led the way with a 3-for-4 performance. J.C. Aguayo and Vincent Valdez both had two hits and Wade Schwerdtfeger had a double.
Ben Dorman fell to 1-2 on the season, pitching 6.1 innings. He gave up five hits and was charged with one earned run. Dorman had five strikeouts in 26 batters faced. Josh Swain followed Dorman with two-thirds of an inning pitched, followed by Chase Phelps who threw to four batters for the final out.
Northwestern (10-3, 2-1) hosts Oklahoma Baptist University at Myers Stadium for a 2 p.m. nine inning game on Thursday, March 3.
