SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Ranger basketball team recorded its 20th win of the season after downing St. Gregory’s University 80-62 in Shawnee on Saturday night in the last game of the regular season. The win left Northwestern in a tie for fourth place in the conference with John Brown as both teams ended with 14-8 conference marks.
Northwestern held a 12-point, 38-26 lead at halftime and outscored SGU 42-36 in the second half to hold onto the win.
The Rangers hit 45 percent on the night and were 7-of-22 from three-point range.
Jonathan Freemyer recorded his team-high fifth double-double of the season with a season-best of 27 points and 11 rebounds. Freemyer was 11-of-17 from the field, hit a three-pointer and added four free throws while ripping down nine defensive boards. Orren Tims, the SAC’s third leading scorer, finished with 19 points and Marshall Bell hit five three-pointers and a field goal to score 17.
The Rangers held St. Gregory’s to 36 percent as conference scoring leader Fayzon Richey led the Cavaliers with 23 points.
Northwestern (20-10, 14-8) will begin play in the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament on Thursday, March 3. The Rangers will meet John Brown University (Ark.) in the opening round at Oklahoma City University.
