ALVA, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State Lady Rangers pulled off an upset against No. 22 Rogers State University on Thursday night in Percefull Fieldhouse, defeating the Lady Hillcats, 65-62.
Despite trailing 29-20 at the half, Northwestern battled back and cut the lead to one point after five minutes into the second half. Rogers State regained a lead by as much as seven points, but a 17-5 run over a five minute span gave NWOSU a 60-55 advantage. RSU responded to tie the game twice, as the game was knotted at 62-62 with 18 seconds remaining. Hannah Guthrie hit her second free throw to put the Lady Rangers up by one and Autumn Klugh iced the Lady Hillcats with two free throws with one tick of the clock remaining to seal the victory.
Hannah Guthrie’s 14 points was joined by three other Lady Rangers in double figures. Keindra Scott scored 13, while Autumn Klugh’s added 11 points. Rachel Wilczek finished with 10 points and six rebounds, as Guthrie led the way in rebounds with eight.
Northwestern shot 39 percent and held RSU to 37 percent from the field. Both teams hit only three treys and the Rangers won the free throw battled, hitting one more than the Lady Hillcats, 22 to 21.
Hunter Peterson led Rogers State with 14 points.
The Lady Rangers (13-16, 7-14) finish the regular season at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Ark. with a 6 p.m. game on Saturday, Feb. 27.
