ALVA, Okla. – In the Ranger men’s home finale at Percefull Fieldhouse, Northwestern was on the short end of an 82-70 game with No. 10 Oklahoma Baptist. The win left the Bison in first place in the Sooner Athletic Conference and put the Rangers in fifth place.
The Rangers came out hot and held Oklahoma Baptist to just three points over the first five minutes of the game. They did so with a 14-3 lead. That lead became erased as the Bison went on a 19-6 run to take their first advantage of the game. After going down by as many as 11 points, Northwestern trimmed the lead at the break to five points, down 39-34.
Oklahoma Baptist prevailed to lead the entire second half, but not before NWOSU pulled within four points at the 5:08 mark. OBU’s 15-7 run closed out the game.
Northwestern hit 40 percent of its shots and was 8-of-29 from beyond the arc. Marshall Bell paced NWOSU with 25 points as he hit eight field goals, five three’s and all four of his free throws. Senior Orren Tims scored 19 points in his final game at Percefull Fieldhouse, while Daryl Glover scored 12.
Oklahoma Baptist shot 47 percent and held a 43-27 rebounding edge. Kevin Swinton led the Bison with 27 points while Tim Bowman sunk eight three-pointers on his wasy to 26 points.
Northwestern (19-10, 13-8) will travel to St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee for an 8 p.m. game on Saturday, Feb. 26. They will then enter the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament at Oklahoma City as play begins on Thursday, Feb. 3.
