ALVA, Okla. – After falling to Oklahoma Christian on Thursday in Edmond, Northwestern picked up a doubleheader sweep on Saturday, Feb. 21 at Ranger Field, as the Rangers downed the Eagles, 7-1 and 13-6.
Northwestern won the opener, 7-1, as both teams had seven hits. The Rangers scored a pair of runs in the second inning, a run in the third and exploded for four runs in the fourth.
Chris Williams hit his third home run of the season and drove in two runs, while Anthony Cros and Chad Anglin were both 2-for-3 at the plate.
Chase Phelps (2-1) recorded his second consecutive complete game win, allowing no earned runs, striking out three and issuing just one walk in 30 batters faced.
The Rangers had no problem disposing of the Eagles in game two, using a four run fourth inning and an eight run fifth inning. Hits were similar between the two teams, as the Rangers out hit the Eagles by one, 14-13.
Dan Coury led the Rangers offensively with a 3-for-4 performance with two runs scored and three runs batted in. Three Rangers had two hits in the game, including: Cody Keiffer, Williams and Tom Huddleston.
Jeremy Lawson (1-1) took the win, after pitching 2.1 innings of relief of starter Jarad Moore, who threw the first 3.1 innings. Matt Stratton finished the game with the final inning and a third on the mound.
Northwestern (3-4, 2-1) will meet Rogers State this week in the next Sooner Athletic Conference series.
