ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State suffered a doubleheader sweep in its first Sooner Athletic Conference doubleheader of the season. The Rangers fell 7-2 and 10-2 to Oklahoma Christian in Alva on Tuesday.
Oklahoma Christian used two solo home runs in the second and fourth innings to jump to a 2-0 lead. The Eagles tacked on five unearned runs in the fifth inning on four hits and three Ranger errors.
Northwestern scored its only two runs of the game in the seventh inning as pitcher Meagan Lack homered to left center field.
The Rangers were limited to four hits in the opener. Stephanie Hines had two doubles and Kylee Wilson added a single in addition to Lack’s long ball.
Kellie Mason started the game in the circle for Northwestern and pitched five innings. She struck out five and walked one while allowing two earned runs.
Lack finished the game and pitched the last two innings. She fanned two batters and allowed one hit in nine batters faced.
In the second game, the Eagles held a 6-0 lead before Northwestern scored a run in the fifth. The Rangers picked up its first hit of the ballgame in the fifth inning as Hines hit her third double of the day to drive in Megan Burditt, who reached on a walk.
OC added four more runs on three hits in the top of the sixth to hold a 10-1 lead. Northwestern countered with a run in the bottom half of the inning as Wilson’s double down the left field line drove in Therese Beeler who started the inning off with a single.
Northwestern only mustered three hits, while the Eagles tagged Northwestern for 15.
Jasmine Braxton took the loss in throwing 4.1 innings. Lack followed her with an inning of work, before Ashton Fitzgerald pitched the final two outs.
Northwestern (2-2, 0-2) will remain idle until Mar. 1, when the Rangers travel to Chickasha to meet the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
