MANHATTAN, Kan. – Northwestern’s women’s rodeo team took third place at the Kansas State Rodeo over the weekend, while the men’s team finished in eighth place in Manhattan, Kan.
The women’s team finished with 210 points, placing them 70 points behind the second place team, Rogers State. Oklahoma Panhandle State won the rodeo with 290 points.
Three cowgirls placed in barrel racing, with Haley Nida leading the way with a 25.09. Jessica Koppitz took fourth with a 25.38 and Ayla McCoy finished seventh with a time of 25.64.
Katelyn Hall took third place in breakaway roping, while Brooke Boulware and Kate Hansen finished seventh and eighth in the event, respectively.
Lindsey Holland was the only Lady Ranger to place in goat-tying, placing fifth.
The Ranger rodeo team scored 170 points while tying with Connors State College. Western Oklahoma State College won the men’s rodeo with 650 points.
Chancy Lovinggood finished third in bareback for the Rangers, as he was one of 10 cowboys to place in the rodeo.
Perry Dietz was awarded sixth in tie down roping, while Cole Wilson and Johnny Shore placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in steer wrestling.
Three teams placed in team roping, as Ty Smith (header) and Dawson McMaster (heeler) finished in second place with an 11.9. Casper May and Derrick Peterson took fifth place with a 15.9, while Jeremy Weibener and Paul Tierney finished in seventh.
The Ranger women lead the Central Plains Region with 1,215 points, 310 in front of their closest competition, Southwestern Oklahoma State. Northwestern’s men are currently in fifth place with 1,410 points, 450 points off leader Panhandle State.
Northwestern’s rodeo team will next appear at Garden City, Kan. on March 5-7.
