ALVA, Okla. – The Ranger softball team started the 2011 season out with a pair of wins on Monday, defeating Tabor College (Kan.) in an 8-0 five inning run-rule in the opener and finished with a 10-5 win in game two.
Jasmine Braxton pitched the Rangers to a 10-0 shutout in the opener. She picked up her first win of the season as she allowed just one hit, a single that led off the fifth inning. Braxton faced 20 batters and recorded three strikeouts.
The Rangers scored in all but the second inning, as five players had two hits performances. Katie Glenn was 2-for-4 with a triple, home run and two runs batted in.
Northwestern jumped out a 6-2 lead through two innings of play and scored three runs in the fourth inning, before giving up a run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to Tabor.
Kellie Mason picked up the win in four innings of work, allowing four hits and fanning two. Meagan Lack struck out three in route of picking up her first save of the season, pitching the final three innings.
Glenn was a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs scored, as she repeated game one’s performance with another triple and home run. Katie Thomas and Megan Burditt also had multi-hit games, grabbing two hits each.
The Rangers (2-0) start Sooner Athletic Conference play on Tuesday, Feb. 22 with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Oklahoma Christian in Alva.
