ALVA, Okla. – No. 25 Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s 13-game home winning streak was snapped on Saturday afternoon, as Lubbock Christian upset the Rangers 78-70 in Alva. The Rangers will end the home portion of their schedule on Thursday in a game against Oklahoma Baptist, who sits at the top of the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Northwestern held the lead the entire first half, leading by as many as 14 points before holding onto a 40-32 halftime lead.
The lead diminished until the Chaps took their first lead of the game, up 56-54 with eight minutes left in the game.
The Rangers tied the game up for the fourth time, at 65-65 with 4:25 remaining. Lubbock Christian closed the game on an 18-5 run and improved from 37 percent from the floor to 57 percent in the second half.
The trio of Orren Tims, Marshall Bell and Daryl Glover combined for 54 points. Tims led the way with 22 points, while Bell hit half of the Rangers eight three’s and scored 19 points. Daryl Glover finished with 13 points.
The Rangers shot 40 percent from the field and were 14-of-18 from the free throw line. Lubbock Christian ended the game shooting 47 percent and hit seven three-pointers, while converting on 19 free throws in 22 attempts.
LCU’s Kenny Hewitt led the Chaps with 19 points.
Northwestern (18-6, 12-7) will meet up with Oklahoma City University in Oklahoma City for an 8 p.m. game on Monday, Feb. 21. The game is a makeup from a Feb. 3 snow out.
