ALVA, Okla. – The Lady Rangers had their best game of the season on Saturday afternoon, and upset the NAIA’s eighth ranked team, Lubbock Christian, 74-68.
The game went through 10 lead changes in the first 16 minutes before NWOSU led 32-27 going into the break.
Ten more lead changes followed in the second half, before the Lady Rangers pulled ahead by one, 69-68, with 57 seconds to go.
Northwestern nailed five free throws and held LCU scoreless through the final minute to hold onto the upset.
The Lady Rangers shot well, making 44 percent of its shots. Northwestern hit half of its ten three-point attempts and was 17-of-20 from the free throw line.
Despite Lubbock’s 29 points off of free throws, the Lady Rangers held LCU to 36 percent as the Lady Chaps went on to hit 88 percent of their 33 free throw attempts.
Claudia Vazquez tied her season best of 23 points, hitting seven field goals and nine free throws. Ashley Johnson kicked in 12 points, while Autumn Klugh hit three three-pointers on her way to 10 points.
LCU’s Severyn Smith was Lubbock Christian’s scoring leader with 21 points.
The Lady Rangers will travel to Bethany to take on Southern Nazarene on Thursday, Feb. 19 and cap the week off with a 6 p.m. game at Percefull Fieldhouse with USAO on Saturday, Feb. 21.
