ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern began a two-game home stand this week with a 62-50 win at Percefull Fieldhouse to improve to 16-9 on the season and to 11-6 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
The Rangers trailed by no more than two points early on and chipped away to a 14-10 lead, before scoring nine unanswered points. Northwestern held Wayland Baptist to 19 first half points and lead 29-19 heading into the half.
Northwestern quickly added to its lead, with 12-4 run after the second half kicked off. Leading 60-40, NWOSU was outscored 10-2 over the final three minutes to take the 62-50 victory.
Brandon Dixon topped Northwestern scorers with 12 points as he was 4-of-5 from the field and added four free throws. Termaine Snyder finished with 11 points and Brandon Brown added six.
The Rangers shot 43 percent on the evening and added 12-of-13 from the free throw line. Northwestern’s defense held WBU to 40 percent and just two three pointers.
Wayland was led by 20 points from Teddy Chambers.
Northwestern (16-9, 11-6) will tangle with Lubbock Christian (Tex.) on Saturday, Feb. 14 in a 4 p.m. tip-off.
