ALVA, Okla. – Audrey Richmond scored 34 points, including 21 first half points in the Lady Rangers 70-64 win over Wayland Baptist on Saturday. The win was Northwestern’s first conference victory of the year. Northwestern is now 7-4 overall and 1-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Northwestern held the lead the entire first half, except for the first bucket in which Wayland Baptist made. The Lady Rangers pulled away by as many as 16 points before holding onto a 39-26 lead at intermission.
Wayland Baptist got within three points with 45 seconds to go, but NWOSU scored five consecutive points to put the game out of reach.
Richmond was 13-of-17 from the field, hit a pair of threes and had six free throws on her way to scoring a season-best 32 points. Keindra Scott chipped in 10 points, while Autumn Klugh led the Rangers in rebounds with eight. The Ranger’s bench contributed to 47 points.
Northwestern shot 44 percent on the afternoon and hit 17-of-28 free throws. Wayland shot 35 percent on the afternoon and also hit 17 free throws, but in 23 attempts.
Edite Kresa paced the Flying Queens with 15 points, while Erika Raymond had 14.
Northwestern (7-4, 1-2) will head to Edmond on Monday to take on Oklahoma Christian in a 6 p.m. game.
