ALVA – Northwestern advanced to 7-2 on the season and to 2-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, as the Rangers defeated its second ranked SAC team. Northwestern never trailed as they defeated No. 24 John Brown (Ark.) 90-79 on Saturday night in Percefull Fieldhouse.
Despite two first half ties, NWOSU pulled away by 12 points and led 41-32 at the half. The Rangers were spurred by seven three-pointers.
The Golden Eagles pulled within two points four different times in the second half, but the Ranger men led by double figures for the remaining 7:14.
Four Rangers found double digits, as Marshall Bell led the way with 26 points. Bell hit five three’s, seven field goals and added seven free throws. Thiago Guilherme had four three’s and led Northwestern with seven rebounds while scoring 22 points. Jonathan Freemyer scored 14 points and Orren Tims contributed 10.
The Rangers shot 46 percent from the field and poured in 10 three-pointers in 22 attempts. Northwestern edged John Brown in rebounds, 39-37.
JBU shot 53 percent from the floor and 33 percent from three-point range. Sam Bartlett led the Golden Eagles with 22 points. E.J. McWoods and Coleson Rakestraw both had 18 points and combined for all six of JBU’s three-pointers.
Northwestern (7-2, 2-1) will host Oklahoma Christian in the final of the two-game series with an 8 p.m. tipoff on Monday, Dec. 6. The Rangers downed the No. 18 ranked Eagles 76-67 in Edmond on November 22.
