A task force comprised of various groups at Northwestern Oklahoma State University has been appointed to examine the school’s procedures dealing with the eligibility of student-athletes.
Dr. Janet Cunningham, president of Northwestern, said the task force will be charged with examining current procedures for determining initial eligibility, maintaining eligibility through academic progress and the assignment of responsibilities for eligibility. She has instructed the task force to submit recommendations for strengthening eligibility procedures to her office by Feb. 27, 2009.
Cunningham appointed Dr. Steve Lohmann, executive vice president and the university’s chief academic officer, to chair the task force.
Other members of the group include the following: Dr. Eric Schmaltz, president of the Faculty Senate; Dr. Roger Hardaway, faculty athletics representative; Dr. Chandler Mead, chair of the Department of Health and Sports Science; Bob Battisti, director of athletics; Cynthia Nighswonger, registrar; Irala Magee, director of financial aid; Ryan Bay, head baseball coach; Kelli Krows, women’s basketball student-athlete; and Korey Williams, football student-athlete.
