OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – After trailing for most of the game against Mid-America Christian on Thursday night, the Ranger men’s basketball team got within two points of the Evangels, but a 6-0 run by MACU led to a 79-71 loss for Northwestern.
The Rangers fell behind early, but battled back to tie the game at 10-10. Northwestern took a 15-14 lead before MACU closed out the half with a 33-24 advantage. Mid-America Christian jumped ahead by 19 points in the second half, but again, the Rangers came back to close that gap to two points with 1:04 to go.
Brandon Dixon was the Rangers’ scoring leader with 19 points, hitting 7-of-17 from the field and adding five free throws. Brandon Brown followed with 11 points, while Thiago Guilherme picked up 10 rebounds. As a team, Northwestern shot 44 percent, including 7-of-24 from three-point range.
Mid-America hit 48 percent and had four double-digit scorers. Brandon Williams led the way with 17 points for the Evangels.
The Rangers (8-8, 3-6) will play Oklahoma City University at Percefull Fieldhouse at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16.
