ALVA – In the final game of the Lady Ranger Classic, Northwestern came out victorious, 67-60, but not before a period of overtime play. The Lady Rangers advanced to 2-1 on the early season with the win over William Jewell on Saturday night.
With a 35-31 halftime lead, Northwestern extended its lead by as much as 13 points in the second half, up 50-37 at the 11:56 mark. The Lady Rangers succumbed to a 17-4 run over the next eight minutes, as the game was tied for the second time of the night at 54-54 with 3:44 to play.
NWOSU went up by four with 1:38, but a pair of free throws and a Baker field goal with nine seconds remaining, forced overtime after a 58-58 tie in regulation.
The Lady Rangers had no trouble disposing of the Cardinals in the overtime period, outscoring them 9-2.
Northwestern shot 38 percent, while holding the opposition to just 27 percent. The Lady Rangers hit 5-of-15 from beyond the arch, as William Jewell jacked up 40 three-point attempts, converting on only eight of them.
Talytha Williams had 15 points to lead NWOSU, as she hit three treys and six field goals. Claudia Vazquez added 13 points, while Autumn Klugh scored 11. Audrey Richmond led the way in rebounds with seven.
Northwestern (2-1) will be idle until a Nov. 17 home game at 6 p.m. with Oklahoma Wesleyan.
