ALVA – Northwestern Oklahoma State advanced to 7-2 on the gridiron with a 31-7 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State University at Ranger Field on Saturday.
After a slow first quarter, where Korey Williams scored the only touchdown on a 40-yard pass from Kyle Jech, the Rangers held a 14-7 halftime lead as Jech completed his second TD reception to Kent McDonald. The Rangers gave up a first half touchdown that was the result of an interception returned for a touchdown.
The Rangers scored once in the third quarter and twice in the fourth. In the third quarter, Edgar Colmenares hit a 38 yard field goal. In the fourth, Williams scored on a 19-yard pass and Brock Wardlaw returned a 76-yard interception for a touchdown, his third of the season.
Jech finished with 145 yards and three touchdown strikes as he completed 12-of-22 passes. Williams scored twice and had 85 yards on seven receptions. McDonald hauled in two catches for 34 yards and a score. Guillory led all rushers with 157 yards on 21 carries.
Northwestern had 326 yards of total offense, including 181 on the ground. The Rangers held OPSU to 279 total yards and to just 49 rushing yards.
Rocky Lee headed the Rangers defense with 14 tackles, while Jay Bray picked up 12. Lee also had two tackles for loss, a sack and a pass break up.
Northwestern (7-2, 5-0) will play and host its final game of the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 13 at Ranger Field when the Rangers host Southern Oregon University and go for their eight consecutive win. A Ranger victory could advance Northwestern into the NAIA Playoffs.
