ALVA – Northwestern couldn’t catch up to Baker (Kan.) in the final ten minutes, leading to the Ranger women’s first defeat of the season. The Lady Ranger basketball team fell in the Ranger Classic, 69-62, on Friday.
After trailing most of the opening half, Northwestern was down 32-26 at the break. The Lady Rangers last held a lead with 7:14 to play, as NWOSU was up 47-46. Baker pulled away to take a 10-point lead with 47 seconds to play.
Ten Lady Rangers scored, as nobody found double figures. Talytha Williams, Renee Golliday and Audrey Richmond each had nine points for NWOSU. Claudia Vazquez had a game-high 11 rebounds.
Baker sunk 28 of 39 trips to the free throw line, while shooting 40 percent on the night. Northwestern was 33 percent for the game, hit three three-pointers and added 17-of-22 from the charity stripe.
Northwestern (1-1) will play the final game of the Northwestern Classic at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6 against William Jewell (Mo.). USAO and Baker (Kan.) will square off at 6 p.m. On Friday, William Jewell fell to USAO, 78-56.
