ALVA – Northwestern overcame a 14-point second half deficit to force an overtime against Bethany College (Kan), taking a 64-61 win at Percefull Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.
After leading 26-23 at the half, Northwestern was victim of a 16-2 run to begin the second half. The Lady Rangers fought back and used a 19-5 over the final 11 minutes, tying the game at 53-53.
Claudia Vazquez hit a pair of free throws with two seconds remaining to seal the game, while Mandy Norman added two more with a second remaining.
Northwestern shot 37 percent, while only converting on three of 22 three-point attempts. The Lady Rangers shot well at the free throw line, hitting 19-of-22.
Vazquez was Northwestern’s leading scorer with 14 points. She was followed by Mandy Norman’s 13 points and 10 points from Audrey Richmond. Norman and Renee Golliday both had six rebounds to lead NWOSU.
Bethany College’s Cathy Wade had more than half of the Swedes points, scoring a game-high 35 points on six three-pointers. The Swedes hit 40 percent from the floor and added seven treys.
Northwestern (4-1) begins Sooner Athletic Conference play on Monday, Nov. 22 in a 6 p.m. game against Oklahoma Christian in Edmond.
